Yass Music Club Concert on 22nd April All Welcome
The second concert of the 2023 series, The Rag & Katherine Holmes Tribute Concert, features the Australian National University’s Chamber Orchestra. 80% of this fine group of young musicians have been studying at the university under the tutelage of eminent musicians who are Yass Valley residents and one member of the Orchestra, Gabriel Fromyhr, is also a Yass Valley resident, will be performing on Saturday. Flute soloist Lily Eyland’s teacher Sally Walker is also a Yass resident.
To help celebrate the Club’s 70th anniversary, the Orchestra will perform for our Yass audience a wonderful selection of pieces ranging from a Sibelius solo (featuring Gabriel Fromyhr), some Scandinavian Folk Music, a concerto for flute, viola and strings by Bloch, Sculthorpe’s Irkanda 1 for solo violin, the beautiful and soulful Bachianas Brasileiras No 5 by Villa Lobos and a serenade for Strings by Suk.
This is an exciting concert, not to be missed. Rag was a strong supporter of young musicians and would be delighted to know that this young orchestra is celebrating his life and that of Katherine. Please come and join us on the evening of 22nd April at 7.45 pm in the Memorial Hall. Annual subs can be paid on the night and if you wish to join and attended our first concert there will be a deduction in the subscription fee for the rest of the year. If you just wish to attend on the night, there is a ticket fee of $50 (concession $45).
