Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello
The team at “We Happy Few Wines” are defence force veterans that have banded together over a common love for quality wine. They explain on their website – “High quality, handmade wine by Australian Veterans. Each bottle sold supports veteran welfare.”
It is clear in the wines they crank out that they have a keen eye for quality and are well disciplined in regional definition.
This week’s ‘swirl’ is the We Happy Few Wines ‘Arms Reversed” Shiraz 2018.
This Shiraz is a vibrant dark red colour in the glass with flashes of bright purple.
To me, there are aromas of black cherries and blackberries with classic cool-climate spice including freshly crushed white pepper and a lick of liquorice.
The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, with warm and cuddly dark fruit flavours, a smooth finish with velvety tannins and a pleasant lingering finish.
We enjoyed ours with Greek-style lamb souvlaki but would go well with a spicy Thai beef salad or well-seasoned chargrilled lamb cutlets.
I sourced my bottle from the Yass Valley Information Centre, but you can buy for $25 online.
