Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello
Pinot Gris is an ever-popular tipple for drinkers looking for a drop that’s thirst-quenching, easy-drinking and is summer-food friendly. Pinot Gris in the Yass Valley region is striking a purposeful pose. Murrumbateman Winery is the most visible winery on the Barton and produces excellent wines with varietal character at the fore along with a dose of regionality and a pinch of quirkiness.
This week’s ‘swirl’ is the Murrumbateman Winery – Wine Dogs Pinot ‘Grrris’ 2021 and embodies such qualities.
This Pinot Gris is a bright and flashy wine in the glass and is medium straw in colour with a very slight apricot hue. After a swirl, aromas abound including freshly cut peach and pawpaw, with crushed pineapple and dried mango. On the palate, it’s luscious and tropical with a silky mouthfeel and fruit-sweet finish. This is one to chill down and then chill out with.
We enjoyed our bottle with Tonkatsu and Japanese Chilli glazed Salmon fillet but would go well with grilled seafood, chicken curry, salt & pepper prawns, or simply smashed down after a long hot day at work. I bought mine at the cellar door, but you can also buy for $25 online here: https://murrumbatemanwinery.com.au
