Yazzbar’s Harvey Walsh has become the fifth registered candidate for the December Yass Valley Council elections.

Harvey joins Peter Ford, Fleur Flanery, Ryan Deale and Adrienne Steward as the five formally registered. Many more candidates have announced they are running online or otherwise, however are yet to reach the official NSW Local Government Elections Register of Candidates.

Harvey explained the issues pertinent to him and why he believes he’d be a good fit for Yass Valley Council.

“The issues that particularly interest me are town planning, business creation and community development. I would like to see more collaborative decision making. I know I can contribute to these issues having worked in local government, in the community sector and in business,” said Harvey.

The announcement of another local small business owner running in the election adds further hope for the sector of the community that wants to see the next group of Yass Valley Councillors have a sharper focus on re-energising the local economy. Harvey Walsh owns Yazzbar, Fleur Flanery is the director of an events business based in Yass, Ryan Deale owns Get First Aid, and Adrienne Steward runs a small business of her own and founded Yass Business Mums and Friends. Many of them are also members of the Yass Valley Business Chamber.

Among candidates yet to formally register with similar business minds are Cayla Pothan, who owns Tootsie Gallery Cafe and current Councillor Jasmin Jones, a part owner of the Yass Valley Times.

While fixing roads and water issues will feature prominently as key topics in the election, how important of an issue do you believe revitalising local business should be for the next Council? Do you think it is on par in importance with roads and water or is it somewhat of a secondary issue? Send us your opinion on the topic in writing to the editor@yassvalleytimes.com.au.
