After 50 years in the Patterson family the classic country pub, Hotel Binalong, is up for sale for a cool $2.9 million.

Real estate agent Nick Tinning from hotel brokers Chris Tinning & Company said for the last 50 years the pub has been owned by the Patterson family.

Hotel Binalong retains many original features, creating a charming atmosphere while providing all the modern amenities, including a modern kitchen, extended beer garden and children’s play area to accommodate families.

Potential buyers are being urged to create the next Hume Highway destination with the local watering hole.

“I think most publicans when they walk in there will just go ‘Oh wow’,” Nick said.

He said it is very much a hotel that looks like the classic pubs of days gone by, however, has been upgraded with the required facilities.

“It’s a quintessential pub.”

“I very much love it and I think it’s just an absolutely beautiful showpiece of what hotels traditionally were,” he said. “It’s the old classic.”

“There’s quite a number of people that are interested.”

Which is no surprise on the back of what we saw happen down at the Jugiong’s Sir George.

“We’ve proved that these country pubs, if they can look and feel like a destination hotel, there’s an enormous future for them.”

Known for its rich history amongst farmland and gumtrees, Binalong was previously home to the likes of poet Banjo Paterson and bushranger Johnny Gilbert.

Located 95 km north of Canberra and 311 km southwest from Sydney you will find Binalong boasting many well-preserved Victorian and Federation buildings and a thriving community of local artists.

To find this historic unspoiled village; follow the Hume High- way just south of Yass, turn on the Burley Griffin Way (linking Hume and Newell Highways) and 18km along you arrive.

The pub itself is a picture of days gone by whereupon walking into the old-timey restaurant and hotel you can hardly resist pulling up a stool at the bar for a cold beer.

If you’re in the mood for a chicken schnitty or a plate of lamb cutlets, then take a seat in the formal dining room or relax in the outdoor beer garden. A dozen comfortable guestrooms are available for you to stay the night if you’re passing through town.
