Kristy won the seat for the Labor Party with 50.4% of the two party-preferred vote on the July 4 by-election and was sworn in as a member of parliament on 24 August 2020.

Before entering federal parliament she had an extensive background in Local Government including

  • Councillor for Bega Valley Shire from September 2012 to May 2020.
  • Member of the Country Mayors Association Executive Committee from 2016 to 2018.
  • Mayor of Bega Valley Shire from September 2016 to May 2020.
  • Deputy Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation from 2018 to 2020

She said, “Come and have a cuppa on me and let’s chat about any ideas you have or any issues I can help you with.”

Kristy said that she was really keen to do politics differently. She highlighted that the cuppa catch ups are really good ways to do that.

She said, “Being accessible and being on the ground, meeting with people face to face, that is what I want to do.”

Kristy will be at Thyme to Taste Cafe on Comur Street in Yass from 10am to 11am on Friday September 25.
