Murrumbateman Eagles Host Season Launch

The Murrumbateman Eagles hosted their official season launch at the Murrumbateman Country Inn to a crowd of more than 50 people on April 1st.

The Eagles welcomed in the new footy season with their jumper presentation to the players and the announcement of the 2023 leadership group.

New Eagles coach Mark Welsh spoke to The Times following the season launch, with a forward outlook to Round 1 this Saturday against the Goulburn Swans on the road.

“It was the best season launch in three years, that I’ve been to. We had over 50 people there and it had high energy, we’re all very excited about the season starting on Saturday,” Welsh said.

“We talked about getting off to a really solid start. Goulburn in Goulburn is obviously a really tough round one game.

“Their form that they were showing at the end of last season and into the first round of the finals was really good, so we’re looking out for that form to be there again when we play them.

“We just discussed keeping fit and well and looking after ourselves and getting off to that good start against Goulburn so that we can come back to Murrumbateman in round two against Tuggeranong with a win on the board.

“There’s a good buzz in the air. Once the AFL season started their season, you kind of get that excitement that our season isn’t far away.

“The guys have got a really good energy about them and can’t wait.”

The Eagles will be bolstered in season 2023 with family ties, seeing a set of brothers likely to take the field together in round one.

“For the first time in the club’s history, we’ve got three brothers playing together, with Pat Ryan, Sam Ryan-Baker and Harry Ryan-Baker all playing together.

“We’re looking forward to those three guys play. Fingers crossed, that will happen round one. One of them is just trying to come good from an injury. That’s probably more than likely to happen in round one.

“We’ve also got two other sets of brothers in the team. There’s possibly an opportunity to have a father and son play a game together this year as well.

“Family and friends want to come and play for Murrumbateman. We’ve got a really good feeling about the Club, it shows where we’re at as a Club.

This season all of the Murrumbateman players have acquired individual sponsors and are pumped to put in great performances each week to gain extra recognition for their sponsors.

“The most exciting part of the evening was, we were able to confirm that every single player that’s committed to the 2023 season has got an individual playing sponsorship, which is paying for all of their gear and rego,” Welsh continued.

“The players don’t have to pay for anything to play. It’s the first time in the history of the Club. We had the sponsors there to have photos with the players, which was really good.”
