Brianna and her nephew Odin

Hi there! I’m Brianna, the newest member of the Yass Valley Times family. I grew up just around the corner in Bungendore but moved to Gosford Central Coast just over three years ago. Despite the beaches and waterfalls there, I always missed the rolling hills and white windmills that marked home and I’m excited to return.

I completed a Diploma of Business majoring in communications before realising shortly after graduation that public relations (PR) was definitely not for me. However, my favourite part of my PR internships was writing copy to accompany press releases. Which quickly led me to realise that I wanted to be on the other side of the phone so to speak.

I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from Macleay College, finishing up my final classes last Friday. This sparked my love for photography. I particularly enjoy portrait photography though the high volumes of photos of my dog, Alf, might beg to differ.

Outside of work I like to snap pics, kick back with a book or good show and have a chat over coffee. However, after the last three months in lockdown on the Central Coast, my family was officially sick of me snapping photos of them so I’m looking forward to expanding my portfolio here in Yass.

It’s been a hectic week finishing up my degree, moving and starting a new job in a national crisis but I am beyond excited to get cracking at the Yass Valley Times. I’m eager to learn the ropes under the tutelage of Matthew Stadtmiller and Jasmin Jones and expand my skill set as a regional journo.

I enjoy writing about lifestyle, politics, health, LGBTQ+, film, and women’s interest.

But what I love most about journalism is telling people’s stories and uncovering hidden gems like Bredbo Christmas Barn (a favourite of mine). Which I believe Yass Valley Times will allow me to do tenfold.
