The Yass Roos made the journey out to Googong on Saturday coming away with a 46-point victory.

In what was a scrappy contest from start to finish the Roos slowly chipped away at the Hogs to get a comfortable win, but the scoreline certainly didn’t reflect the contest.

The final scores were the Googong Hogs 7.2- 44 defeated by the Yass Roos 13.12- 90.

Darcy Paine again performed well from the middle booting three goals, with Elliot Johns also collecting three himself and impressing at full-forward in the absence of Frasier Cloney.

Drew Alsford and Macauly Harvie toiled all day in the midfield, alongside debutant ruckman Rex Stacey who excited with his athleticism and physicality.

The Roos had another three debutants on the weekend, bringing their season total to 11. Depth at the Roos appears to be a strength at this point in time, with still 6-7 players unavailable on the weekend who will walk back into the best 22 when fit and available.

Captain Leigh Thompson was pleased with the performance and said improvement will continue as the team gets used to playing with one another.

“Still a bit scrappy, but we’re starting to gel and improve week in week out.”

“We look forward to a big test next week against ANU,” he said.

ANU beat the Roos by five points in last year’s grand final, with the Roos boys no doubt seeking redemption as they make the trip out to Acton.

The Murrumbateman Eagles continued their hot run of form with a convincing victory against the Ainslie Tricolours.

The Eagles burst out the gate with a five-goal to one opening term.

The rest of the game was relatively steady, with the Eagles gradually adding to their lead and running out eventual winners by 50 points.

Final scores were Murrumbateman Eagles were 13.9- 87 defeating the Ainslie Tricolours 6.1-37.

Brent Ford added three goals to his season tally and now leads all comers in the competition goal kicking.

The Eagles sit atop the ladder as they head into a round 3 clash against the Woden Blues at EPC Solar Park.
