Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello

Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are by themselves capable of producing delicious, thirst-quenching drops, but when combined there’s a little bit of X-factor – often the blend of these two white varieties is greater than the sum of its parts.  Both of these varieties grow well in our relatively cool wine region climate, and the team at Clonakilla have the happy knack of squeezing the most out of the blend.

This is especially the case with this week’s ‘swirl’, the Clonakilla Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2021.

This wine is pale straw in the glass with flashes of white gold.  A swirl reveals pungent aromas of freshly cut Granny Smith apple, pineapple and freshly squeezed grapefruit.

The palate is bright, vibrant, and lively with zesty grapefruit and crisp apple flavours, yet it’s deliciously ripe, fruity, and downright glugable.

We enjoyed ours with prawn & chive pot-sticker dumplings laced with chill soy sauce, but this would go equally well with a spicy chicken stir-fry or salt & pepper squid.

I bought mine from the local wine selection at the Murrumbateman IGA, but you can also buy yours from the Clonakilla cellar door.
