The Yass Football Club had a busy weekend coming away with two wins and a draw across their five senior teams.

Our State League Women’s Division 4 team won 9 – 2 on Sunday against Woden Football Club and the Division 6 team had a 4 all draw against Majura Football Club.

Meanwhile, Yass’ Community League Men’s side won 11 – 2 over Belconnen North but unfortunately the State League Men’s Division 2 lost 3 – 5 against ANU and similarly, the Division 2 Reserves also lost 0 – 5 against ANU.

The Yass Football Club President Ingrid Davis said numbers have been an absolute struggle for both men’s and women’s sides already this year.

Although the Redbacks did boost their ranks with several new players this year after a few younger parents signed up to give it a crack.

“Word of mouth has got around,” she said. “Some very keen new players as well as returning old ones.”

But the women’s teams had an awkward number of players with too many for one team but not quite enough for two.

Ingrid said the team is almost playing short each week with just 12 players in each team when usually there are 16 players on a card and 11 on the field.

“We have managed to just scrape through with two teams for the women, so we’ll be going ahead with that,” Ingrid said. “But I think some people will be playing two games a week to back up, which is wonderful.”

“But we’re back at training, looking forward to the season ahead and hoping to re- peat our premiership wins of last year.”
