The Yass Magpies hit the paddock hard on Saturday, July 16, with Reserve Grade defeating Goulburn 20 – 6 and Goulburn getting a win later in the day 36 – 22 over Yass’ First Grade in Round 13 of the 2022 Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup.

It was a strong performance from the Magpies after a tough season with just one win for First Grade back in Round 4 over the Gungahlin Bulls.

Coach Cam said he likened the Magpies’ season to Groundhog Day, where they repeat similar mistakes and unforced errors. But this season, at the very least, Yass has managed to break through the opposition’s defence to score at least one try and successful conversion every game.

Yass’s First Grade is currently sitting in ninth place on the ladder, and Reserve Grade is sixth with five rounds left in the 2022 season.

In Round 14, the Yass Magpies are up against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers on July 23 at 1:20pm for Reserve Grade and 3:00pm for First Grade at Greenway Oval. The Magpies previously fell to the Bushrangers 10 – 30 earlier this season.

Meanwhile, the Magpies women have remained undefeated in the 2022 Katrina Fanning Shield season. The ladies are also set to take on the Tuggeranong Bushrangers at 10:45am this Saturday.

The annual Yass Magpies Ladies Day is also fast approaching on August 20 at Walker Park. At $10/pp, food and drinks will be available while the community watches the Magpies Reserve and First Grade teams take on top- side Queanbeyan Blues at 1:20pm and 3:00pm respectively.

Payment can be made via transfer or cash. Locals can message the Yass Magpies Senior Rugby Club for the transfer details, pay by cash at Tuesday/Thursday training or game day on Saturday, July 30.
