Freezing weather does not stop the Yass Swimming Club, they are all fired up and inviting the community to join them.
Over the school holidays, club members have been busy chopping trailer loads of fire wood for their fundraising auction this Saturday 23 of July.
The Club is raising money towards a number of projects to improve the swimming experience for club events, school carnivals, Yass Shine Shield and general pool users. Club President Donna Wullaert explained that the club seeks grant funding throughout the year and aims to achieve any improvements possible for the pool facilities and club swimmers.
“Some grants fully cover the cost of a project, but others require our club to contribute up to half the amount. That can be challenging for such a small club with such a short swimming season, ” Donna said.
“We were thrilled to recently receive two grants under the NSW Local Sport Grant Program – one for a specialist swim clinic and the other funding towards a new semi-automatic race timing system,” she said.
Successful fundraising during winter will mean the club can purchase the new timing units for the 2022 swimming season.
Donna said this type of automatic timing system is becoming the standard at swim events because it means more accurate results for swimmers and far less headaches for organisers.
“This modern timing system will be far better than the old stopwatches we have all been using for years,” Donna said.
“Club events and school carnivals at the Yass pool can all benefit.” “Each year we are incredibly grateful to our local community – the businesses and individuals who support our club events and fundraising. We make it a priority to do things not just for the club, but for the benefit of all swimmers and carnivals held at the Yass pool.”
With more than 15 trailer and ute loads of chopped firewood to be auctioned at Meehan Street at 10am this Saturday, along side a BBQ and cake stall, there looks to be something for everyone.
We hope the community comes down to bid on a load of wood and winning bidders will have the added benefit of the Yass Swimming Club members delivering and unloading the wood the same day.
