After a temporary halt for all codes during last week’s Easter long weekend break, all sporting codes are set to resume on the upcoming ANZAC weekend, with all Yass Valley teams ready to fire.
To start off with a mouthwatering Yass Valley rivalry, the Murrumbateman Eagles will come up against the Yass Roos in the fourth grade of the AFL Canberra men’s competition.
The Eagles are flying on top of the ladder with two wins from as many games to start the season, while the Roos will be looking to improve their record to 2-1 after their away trip to Murrumbateman Park on Saturday afternoon, with the first bounce set for 2pm. The Yass Redbacks Football Club will also have five of their teams showcasing their talent over the ANZAC long weekend.
In Canberra’s Capital Football Community League 5 competition, Yass will be coming up against the ADFA Vikings at Walker Park from 11am on Saturday. In the State League Men’s Division 2 Reserves comp, the Redbacks will once again be at home, taking on the Monaro Panthers at 1pm.
In the following time slot at 3pm, the State League Men’s Division 2 side will take on the Monaro Panthers on the same field.
On Sunday, the Yass Redbacks State League Women’s Division 6 side will come up against Gungahlin United at 10am at Harrison.
Finally, to wrap up the weekend for the Yass Football Club, the State League Women’s Division 4 side will face a road trip to Canberra to come up against Tuggeranong United at 2pm in Kaleen.
On Sunday, April 24, the Yass Magpies First Grade come up against the Goulburn City Bulldogs in Round 3 of the 2022 Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup at 3pm at Workers Arena in Goulburn with the Reserve Grade kicking off at 1:20pm.
After a bye in Round 1 this is only the second match of the season for the Magpies and they will be gunning for a win after a loss for both grades in Round 2.
Good luck to all of the above Yass and Murrumbateman sides in this weekend’s competitions, and be sure to uphold the ANZAC spirit whilst playing.
