If Ash Barty’s victory in the recent Australian Open has inspired you to work on your own searing forehand then you’re just in time for Spinifex Tennis classes to return in Yass and Murrumbateman this week.

Coach and owner of Spinifex Tennis Scott Eulenstein said it’s been a tennis festival over the last few weeks after completing two school holiday clinics in Yass and Murrumbateman while the Australian Open unfolded in Melbourne.

“I offer a good family-friendly environment,” Scott said. “I’ve been able to offer tennis in an outdoor setting which is both COVID friendly and it builds a good sense of community.”

“It offers families an option to get in, do some training and they get to see some improvements pretty quickly.”

Classes will be held in Yass on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and Murrumbateman classes will be held on Fridays.

The nine-week program has a variety of classes for different levels and age groups. From 4:00pm to 4:30pm the Red Ball group is on the court targeted at children aged 4 to 7.

The Red Ball group use a smaller modified racket and the balls have a larger diameter.

“It’s easier for the children to control and build up their rallying skills and teamwork in a 30-minute lesson,” Scott said.

“Some children really take to it early on and then others it’s a bit of a transition.”

“We’ve found a few of the three- and four-year-olds within the holiday clinics have really enjoyed it,” he said. “They’ve worked alongside their siblings within a group, and they felt pretty comfortable.”

“The skills come together pretty quickly.”

The next group are ages 8 to 13 in the Orange Ball group followed by the Green Ball and Yellow Ball groups for high school age students and adults.

Scott runs a popular Cardio Tennis program for adults which builds fitness and skill throughout the term.

“It integrates some good cardio activities, drills, match play, and different challenges,” he said. “It allows players of all skill levels to get out there and get some training under their belt and challenge a few of a few of their classmates.”

“It’s been a great program socially as well.”

For the Orange Ball, Green Ball and adult groups classes costs $180 for the term or a casual pro-rata rate of $25 per lesson.

The younger Red Ball group costs $112.50 for the term.
