Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello

The white grape variety – Pinot Gris – is rapidly becoming a favourite amongst savvy wine drinkers.  When the grapes are well grown and the wine is expertly made, Pinot Gris can be delightfully delicious and fantastically food-friendly.  Pinot Gris hits its straps in cool climates and there are many great examples right here in the Yass Valley region.

An excellent example is this week’s “swirl” – the Long Rail Gully Wines Pinot Gris 2021.

Made in Murrumbateman by Richard Parker, this wine is worth seeking out, especially with the weather warming up.

This Pinot Gris is a pale straw colour with a glowing glimmer of pale gold.

A swirl reveals a bevy of beguiling aromas including freshly cut beurre bosc pear, ripe peach and nectarine.

There’s also an attractive waft of honeysuckle blossom.

The wine has a luscious and rich mouthfeel with stone fruit and tropical fruit flavours.  The aftertaste is long and lingering.

We bought our bottle at the Murrumbateman Country Inn and enjoyed with the Chef’s Special of creamy chilli and garlic prawn tagliatelle pasta – a fantastic match.

Pinot Gris food pairing suggestion

It would go with chicken curry or beer-battered snapper fillets, or you could just neck this off by itself on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
