Steampunk Victoriana Fair

Tickets to the Steampunk Victoriana Fair, held at Goulburn Historic Waterworks on 12 and 13 March, are now available.

Goulburn is once again hosting the retro-futuristic fair, which will surely draw a crowd from Yass and beyond with several interesting steampunk-themed events set to go ahead.

Armed with metal goggles and a top hat many revellers will be flocking to see Victorian-era themed games, costumes, steam engines, food and entertainment.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term Steampunk, it’s a subgenre of science fiction that incorporates retro-futuristic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the NSW Regional Events Acceleration Fund will help this year’s Steampunk event deliver a bigger program, including temporary infrastructure for attendees, a pop-up camping area and an outdoor movie cinema.

“Since the event’s conception, Steampunk Victoriana Fair has been incredibly popular and I’m excited that it will run again on 12 and 13 March 2022 after having to reschedule because of COVID-19 and travel restrictions,” Mr Toole said.

“The 2022 Steampunk Victoriana Fair will host a larger range of activities across multiple venues and will be launched with a spectacular outdoor fire show on the Friday evening, followed by two days of music, food, parades and entertainment.”

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tucker- man said hosting major events like the Steampunk Victoriana Fair puts more heads on beds and fills restaurants, cafes and tourist attractions, which drives regional NSW’s economic recovery from bushfire, floods, drought and COVID19.

“The NSW Government’s $60,000 support for the Steampunk Victoriana Fair will allow even more visitors to experience the event in Goulburn and our wonderful visitor attractions,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“It also will allow the event organisers to showcase more local producers and businesses.”

“This exciting event entices visitors to experience all the delights that Goulburn has to offer, putting our region on the map as a one-of-a-kind tourist destination.”

Steampunk Victoriana Fair’s Event Organiser Julianne Salway said the Regional Events Acceleration Fund grant will reinvigorate the major local event and encourage even more visitors from around Australia to attend the annual affair.

“We’re busy preparing for this year’s Fair and we look forward to welcoming back all of our splendid Steampunk supporters to the Goulburn Historic Waterworks,” Ms Salway said.

The $40 million Regional Events Acceleration Fund is part of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.
