Luff brothers outright rally win in tough field – story includes video clip to take the drive with the boys!

With close to 60 entries from all over the state, the AMSAG Inc organisation held their much-anticipated rally at Bulahdelah on Saturday 18 July.

Under trying conditions due to the recent rain in the area, the forests were a little slippery for the competitors but that didn’t slow down the throttle for young gun driver Jamie Luff & his co-driver brother Brad Luff.

Jamie started on the rally scene a couple of years ago as a co-driver for a mate from Wagga.  Jamie soon realised that he did not want to be in the passenger seat, he wanted to take the wheel himself.  He built himself a Toyota Sprinter Rally car & requested the assistance of his brother Brad to ride along beside him as his navigator. Brad never hesitated!!

Jamie’s motto was I need to drive a slow car fast before I step into a faster car.  He did just that, the duo took out the Class B of the AMSAG rally series in 2019 so that meant he was ready to step it up with the big boys in the Open 4WD class. Again, Jamie got himself a new car & prepared it for the forests.

Due to the COVID19, the rally calendar was delayed until July 18 when the first round was given the green light to go ahead at the North Coast town of Bulahdelah NSW. The boys were prepared and busting to tear up the roads in the Forests. Seeded #13 at the event, they were off. After the first 3 of the 7 stages for the day, results came rolling in & the clean drive from Jamie & the accurate calls from Brad put them into 2nd place overall.

A bit of maintenance on the car & another full tank of fuel, they set off again for the next 2 stages. Again, another clean drive by Jamie kept them in 2nd place before preparing for the night stages. With the light pods fitted to the car, they set off again into the forest, this time in complete darkness. An incident with a couple of cars, unfortunately, came the decision by officials to cancel the night stages due to safety and road conditions. The boys disappointed but in agreeance with the decision headed back to the service park.

Extremely happy with their results from the day, they headed home awaiting the results. Monday night, AMSAG posted final results of the event declaring the Luff Boys not only the Open 4WD class winners but the Outright winners.

A drive & navigator job well done!  The boys were expected to race in Coffs Harbour over the weekend.  Click to take the exhilarating drive with the boys!
